Welcome Dr. Francesco Calzaferri!

Warm welcome Francesco to the Giordani group! Francesco joins us from the University of Montpellier where he carried out 4 years postdoctoral research on the discovery and optimisation of bioactive molecules targeting DNA and histone methyltransferases, relevant epigenetic players in cancer development and progression. Previously he received a PhD in Pharmacology and Physiology at the University Autónoma of Madrid in 2021, where he developed a novel brain-permeable antagonist of the P2X7 receptor to tackle neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory disorders.

He joins our team as an SFI- funded postdoctoral researcher (grant no.: 2/FFP-A/11), working on the project titled “Bio-Inspired Functionalisation of Nanoplatforms for Targeted Delivery of Therapeutics.” Thanks to his interdisciplinary skills in both organic synthesis and cell biology, he will develop and biologically evaluate novel smart nanoparticles for spatio-temporally controlled drug release in cancer. His vast experience will undoubtedly bring valuable new perspectives to our research. We look forward to his contributions and the innovations ahead. Welcome, Francesco!
