BIO-NANOAGE Project Officially Launches in Łódź

We are thrilled to announce our participation in BIO-NANOAGE, a newly funded 12-month ECIU Research Seed Project entitled “Modern Cosmeceutical: Traditional Plant Extracts vs Nanoparticle Products as Potential Anti-Aging Factors,” this project officially kicked off with an in-person meeting in Łódź, Poland. During the visit, the team also embarked on a tour of the research infrastructure at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, providing valuable opportunities to explore analytical, formulation, and biological research capabilities that will support the project’s objectives.

The cosmetics sector is seeing rapidly growing demand for anti-aging solutions, yet traditional plant-derived active ingredients often face challenges such as poor skin penetration and chemical instability. BIO-NANOAGE addresses these barriers by establishing a multidisciplinary European network linking experts in nanotechnology, natural products chemistry, and cellular biology.
The project brings together three Principal Investigators across the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU):
Assoc. Prof. Anna Wajs-Bonikowska at the Lodz University of Technology leads the extraction and characterization of active botanical components and the formulation of traditional cosmetic emulsions. At Dublin City University, Prof. Silvia Giordani spearheaded the development of nano-based delivery platforms to enhance ingredient bioavailability and stability. Asst. Prof. Bruno Bernardes de Jesus at the University of Aveiro conducts biological and cell-based evaluations to quantify the anti-aging efficacy and cellular safety of both traditional and nano-enhanced formulations.

By directly comparing traditional botanical formulations with advanced nanoparticle-enabled approaches, BIO-NANOAGE seeks to generate new scientific insights into the development of evidence-based cosmeceuticals.
Beyond its scientific objectives, BIO-NANOAGE places a strong emphasis on industry engagement and consumer validation. By bridging botanical activities with advanced nanomedicine, BIO-NANOAGE seeks to set a new benchmark for cosmeceuticals while building a long-term foundation for future collaborations.
We look forward to sharing updates and key findings as the project progresses over the coming year.
