Prof. Silvia Giordani Appointed Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMRI)

Professor Silvia Giordani has been appointed Ufficiale dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, one of the highest honours of the Italian Republic, in recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements and her contributions to research, innovation, and international academic collaboration.

Established in 1951, the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana is the highest-ranking Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The honour was formally conferred in June 2025 by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and presented at a ceremony at the Italian Embassy in Dublin by H.E. Nicola Faganello, Italian Ambassador to Ireland.

The ceremony was attended by the President of Dublin City University, Professor Dáire Keogh; the Head of the School of Chemical Sciences, Professor Mary Pryce; the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Health, Professor Blánaid White; members of the Giordani Research Group; the Government of Ireland Science Advisor, Professor Aoife McLysaght; the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Dr Michela Magrì; as well as collaborators and friends, all of whom were present to show their support.

In her remarks at the ceremony, Professor Giordani reflected on collaboration, service, and gratitude:

“I accept this distinction with humility and with a strong sense that it reflects not only individual effort, but shared work. My professional journey has been shaped by curiosity, international collaboration, and the belief that science and education can genuinely improve lives.

If there is one common thread throughout this journey, it is that progress never happens alone. It is built step by step through teamwork, persistence, and a daily commitment to doing things well, especially when challenges arise.

Above all, I would like to dedicate this honour to my parents, whose encouragement, values, and support have guided me throughout my life, and to my late brother Davide, whose belief in me, wisdom, and kindness remain with me every day.

This award is a reminder of the value of service: through education, through research, and through building bridges between people and countries.

Thank you again for this extraordinary honour. This recognition belongs to all of us.

Grazie di cuore.”
